“The Growing Building”: An agricultural Institute made out of regenerative Bio-Materials
Haryana, India initially known for its rich farmlands has now lost its cultural significance due to over population and urbanization. As a city grows into more smarter and technology driven system, it faces a crisis in its identity. This, although un-avoidable must be dealt with. The project [UP]Rooted aims at restoring the cultural fabric of the city through an intervention that initiates the dialogue between the people and the complex urban “eco-system”. The building proposes the above mentioned Programmes in order to revive this long lost culture. The new age of technology forces us to explore new techniques of farming which can accommodate the environmental challenges we face today.
[UP]Rooted provides a platform for different kinds of beings to engage and interact, developing the idea of Mixed and Socially Sustianable Communities.
These biologically engineered material panels give the project a significant expression and distinctive character, as if the building is emerging from the ground.
The farmlands have been carefully integrated with the built structure providing a micro-climate within the site. The boundaries have been eliminated in order to have a seamless interaction between the users and the site.
